US Open Men’s Competition 2010: Preview of the first round matches - Part 3
Let us have a look at the remaining major first round matches of the United States Open tennis tournament from the men’s side to be contested at Big Apple.
1. Roger Federer versus Brian Dabul
Federer's final as well as semi-final streaks at the Grand Slam tournaments have been snapped over the last few seasons; however the Swiss tennis maestro has still succeeded in a total of twenty nine opening round matches in a row at major events.
2. Dudi Sela versus Xavier Malisse
Seli is the clear favourite to triumph, as he already got the better of Malisse on the hard surface of Los Angeles earlier this season.
3. Marco Chiudinelli versus Jack Sock
Marco has made it till the third round in New York on his last two appearances at the Flushing Meadows. On the other hand, Sock is just a seventeen-year-old teenager who is ranked number 651 in the world by ATP and is nowhere near beating Marco in his opening round match of the US Open 2010.
4. Frederico Gil versus John Isner
The eighteen ranked American tennis player John Isner has been performing quite well this season, however he suffered an ankle injury at the ATP Cincinnati Masters tennis tournament earlier this month. Therefore, even if he does manages to come out on the court, his chances of triumphing are slim, despite the fact that he is going up against a player that is 0-8 in Grand Slam competitions.
5. Tomas Berdych versus Michael Llodra
This is another tough section for the eight-ranked Tomas. Llodra thrashed out Berdych the last time they faced each other in a total of five sets at the clay court French Open tennis tournament back in 2008 and the French tennis player has so far captured a total of two trophies this season, including one on hard surface. However, Berdych succeeded in his other three career clashes with Llodra and is coming off a semi-final run at the French Open and a finalist at the grass court Grand Slam tournament. Therefore, it is definitely going to be an exciting matchup.
6. Nikolay Davydenko versus Michael Russell
The sixth-ranked tennis player from the men’s side Davydenko has at least made his way into the fourth round of the competition. Russell on the other hand has never surpassed the first round in his last five attempts and, therefore has bleak chances for an opening round victory at the Flushing Meadows.
7. Somdev Devvarman versus Kevin Anderson
Anderson stands at 0-6 in Grand Slam tournaments where as Somdev is 1-2, with that victory coming at last season’s United States Open tennis tournament and looks quite obvious to turn out as the winner.
8. Andy Roddick versus Stephane Robert
Robert is participating in his very first United States Open tennis tournament whereas the ninth-ranked American Andy Roddick has made his way at least till the third round as his last eight major events. Therefore, Roddick has certainly no comparison with Robert.
9. Mardy Fish versus Jan Hajek
Fish has been playing quite well this year, capturing a total of two ATP titles and improving to number twenty one in the world and is, therefore likely to take down Jan in straight sets at the Big Apple.
10. Novak Djokovic versus Viktor Troicki
Djokovic stands at 4-0 against Troicki since the start of last season and there is no reason for him to fall down against Viktor in his opening round match of the US Open tennis tournament 2010.
11. Marin Cilic versus Illya Marchenko
Marchenko is participating in is very first United States Open tennis tournament, whereas Cilic made his way into the quarters last year at the US Open and is expected to comfortable beat Marchenko in the first round clash at the Flushing Meadows in straight sets.
12. Mikhail Youzhny versus Andrey Golubev
The twenty-ranked tennis ace from the men’s side, Youzhny stands at 2-0 against Golubev with both victories coming on hard courts over the last two years and is, therefore likely to win his opening round match at the Flushing Meadows as well.
