US Open Men’s Singles’ Preview of Day Three – Tennis Special
Several tennis stars including the British number one Andy Murray and the world number five David Ferrer are in action on day three at the US Open 2012, last of the four Grand Slam events held in Queens in New York City, United States.
The American number one, John Isner, will start his campaign at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. He will face off the Belgian star, Xavier Malisse for the fourth time. Regardless of trailing in the FedEx ATP Head 2
Head Series by 1-2 against the Belgian, Isner won on their recent clash in Nice and is in great run of form. The ninth seed is coming off winning a title at the Winston-Salem Open. He stunned top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and second seed Tomas Berdych to steal
the spotlight.
The Olympic champion, Murray, will also be in action later that day at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. He will square off against the Croatian star, Ivan Dodig, for the first time. The high flying Scot crushed Russia’s Alex Bogomolov Jr. with a breadstick while
Dodig also recorded an impressive victory over his rival. The Croat eased past the Japanese qualifier, Hiroki Moriya, with a bagel in one hour and 40 minutes to set up this clash.
Dodig commented about his next match up against the Scot.
"For me it's great. I will be really, really happy to play on a big court. I have some experience with some other guys, but with him it's the first time for me... Of course it's going to be tough, but I have to focus on my game and try to play my best on
the court."
Seeded third in this major hard court event, Murray made a title-round showing at the Wimbledon Championships and trounced Federer in Olympics to capture Gold. However, he has yet to seek his rhythm on hard courts as Murray pulled out from the Rogers Cup
due to an injury and bowed out to the French lucky loser, Jeremy Chardy, at the Cincinnati Masters before entering this event.
The Spanish number two, David Ferrer is scheduled to play South Africa’s Kevin Anderson at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. Both contenders are facing each other for the first time but the South African number one is on a four match losing streak. Ferrer on
the other hand recently captured a title in Bastad, a clay court tournament. However, he bowed out to the Asian number one Kei Nishikori in the third round at the Wimbledon Championships and crashed out to Stanislas Wawrinka in his opening match at the Western
and Southern Open in Cincinnati.
Juan Martin Del Potro will take on the French lucky loser, Florent Serra, in a late night match. The seventh seed is encountering Serra for the first time and with his recent run of form, Del Potro can easily carve out the victory. The Argentine made a final
four showing at the Cincinnati Masters before entering the Flushing Meadows.
