US Open Polo Championship Player Ratings: Hawks 12 – Piaget 4
The most one-sided game of the season ended with the convincing victory of Hawks over Piaget in the first round match of the United States Open Polo Championship being played at the International Polo Club in Wellington, city of Florida. Freddie Mannix
was seen scoring points for fun and likewise, however it was odd to see neither the defensemen of Piaget stopping him to ride into their goals.
Nevertheless, the contest was highly entertaining with some high quality polo action from the players. It was observed that the defensemen of Hawks delivered excellent performance and kept them at bay in the most part of the game.
Let us look at the players from both sides as how did they play their role in the game.
Piaget though showed impressive games in the recently concluded USPA Piaget Gold Cup, but it seemed a different team against Hawks.
Hawks
Freddie Mannix: 9.5/10
Freddie Mannix was very fast and explosive on the field and stole the show in the real sense. He was the star of for Hawks and real architect of the victory and by far the best striking performer of the contest. He scored seven goals and ruined the
defence line of Piaget. He rarely missed any chance on the field and displayed impressive passing, stick work and particularly the long penalty shots.
Julian Mannix: 7.5/10
Another cracking show of Julian Mannix, the brother of Freddie Mannix, has enhanced his reputation. He was the person who played significant role in the seven goals of senior Mannix. He also scored one goal in the win which was a state-of-the-art drive.
He looked a constant threat throughout the game and took rides around the field. His speed and desire to win the game was real force behind his superb game.
Mariano Aguerre: 6.0/10
It was a hard-working performance from Aguerre who was playing at the defence and as well covering offensive. He passed the ball several times towards the front-runners to make them fruitful. Apart from his impassive defence, he was quite successful
on offence and notched three goals. His catching and distribution skills played vital role in the high margin victory. He also made some crucial saves to keep Piaget attackers at bay.
Luka Modric: 6.0/10
He was at his best and demonstrated an outstanding defence on the field. He denied numerous strikes from the opposite side and jammed their scoring at four goals.
Piaget
Lolo Castagnola: 7.0/10
Castagnola was neat on the ball and looked comfortable with the ball. However, he failed to bring his team-mates into the score net. He scored three out of total four goals. His ridings onto the field were outstanding, but he was not sloppy in passing.
Nachi Heguy: 5.5/10
He completely failed on the field except on one occasion when he converted a penalty-shot. He could not get impressive passing, which is the major part of the game-winning performances. His lengthy rides were futile as his sticks were not produced
much scoring hits.
Melissa Ganzi: 5.0/10
He seemed solid every now and then, but could not be productive on defence. His ball handling was also unimpressive and could not run fast with the speed of the ball.
Juan Bollini: 4.0/10
Alike all his team-mates, he failed to match the energy levels of the Hawks players and hardly linked up with his team-mates whether on defence and the offence.
