US Open champion Rory McIlroy accepts his on-going affair with Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki
The reigning US Open champion Rory McIlroy has confirmed now that he has been in relationship with the world number one Tennis star Caroline Wozniacki. The 22-year-old Irishman was making a guest appearance at the New Haven Open tennis tournament where he
was invited to raise funds. Also playing in the event was none other than the rising Russian star Wozniacki.
"I think why we get on so well is because we have so much in common." Mcllroy admitted in front of the press later in the evening. "Obviously, different sports, but we're pretty much in the same position at a young age. We can talk about things that probably
a lot of 21- and 22-year-olds can't. It's nice to have someone who understands what you're going through."
McIlroy was spotted with Wozniacki in rich London suburbs where the couple was seen kissing each other and were photographed by a trailing paparazzi. McIlroy was on a break from his sporting obligations to enjoy the spills of his victory at the US Open Championship
just a few weeks back.
The revelation about his affair with the Tennis star also triggered the break up with Holly Sweeney, his childhood friend. Spokesman from International Management Company (IMG) later officially disclosed that the duo has fallen apart but refrained from mentioning
anything regarding McIlroy’s affair with Wozniacki. The young Irishman also remained discreet for most part of the time and this is the first occasion that he has decided to officially accept the connection.
McIlroy barely managed to finish his engagement at the PGA Championship last month after he badly injured himself in the opening round of the championship. Trying to recover his ball from thick tree roots, McIlroy struck a protruding branch and suffered
a painful wrist injury which caused him dearly in the rest of the rounds on the weekend.
The stubborn Irishman decided to persist in the face of injury and managed to not only make the cut but also finished for a joint 64th, edging past many of the strong and physically fit players on the field.
"It's actually not my wrist," said McIlroy, pointing to his forearm. "It's more up toward my elbow."
The US Open winner will be eager to play at the upcoming European Tour event, the European Masters in Switzerland at the Crans-sur-Sierre. He has also decided to move to the mainland US to pursue a career on the PGA Tour, taking a U-turn on his previous
statements.
McIlroy won the US Open Championship with a record eight shot lead becoming the youngest player to do it after Bobby Jones. He is currently ranked number five on Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
