You know who awaits you once you win an NBA championship? No idea? Let me fill in… the President of United States of America. It is one of those moments that rarely occur in someone’s life and anyone can spend a lifetime waiting for it, but not the lucky
Los Angeles Lakers.
On Monday, the President enjoyed the day with one of his favourite teams of NBA along with some of their great former players too. He showed them around the White House, they also had a private tour of the residence that came as a
bonus. Later, President Obama had a full house address given to them all in East room of the building. The NBA Champs gathered around him awed at his enigmatic personality and were left totally mesmerised.
The President and Lakers spent time at a DC area’s Boys and Girls club where they spent time making packages for wounded service members. These packages would be delivered to the soldiers at Walter Reed hospital.
Later, the President enjoyed dribbling the ball with the team as they showed him some of the basketball’s tricks and techniques. For once the President let the political concerns leave room in his mind for a basketball game that he enjoyed to the fullest.
No press was allowed to enter the court as Obama strictly wanted a game that had his full concentration and was rightly put in words.
The generous president was all smiles and looked during his address to them. It seems that the wonderful president is developing a deep association with athletes and is more fond of sports than any other past leaders. His encouraging words would stay in
mind of the Lakers and not only them, but motivate all the other teams as well.
"Congratulations to the Los Angeles Lakers for winning your 15th NBA title and fourth in the last 10 years," Obama said encouragingly. "I still get enormous pleasure from watching great athletes, and nobody exemplifies excellence in basketball better than
the Los Angeles Lakers."
It was for sure a moment that the Lakers will never forget in their lives, no matter where they go, these motivational and rightly spoken words would always encourage them to pace forward and gain more respect among peers.
All the Lakers were dressed in their team track suits and Obama unlike the last time’s meeting went less formal and more attentive. The team coaches were wearing sports jackets and all of them grouped together for a beautiful photograph that would lay rested
on the mantelpiece of each of the person’s home forever.
The room was beaming with great men, Obama, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Phil Jackson and the list goes on.
The Lakers could not contain their smiles and kept smiling throughout the fateful encounter.
"I think they're in awe," coach Phil Jackson contributed about the reactions of his team. "I really do."
The team was later beaming with joy and their faces were glowing with radiance as they rejoiced to the memories of the meeting. When later asked about the experience each player had the same feelings put into different words yet portraying the same emotions.
The Lakers do care for each other and are a united team and this is evident from their victories. Had they not cared for each other they would not have made it to this title.
The President easily laughed and gave casual comments and made the audience and the team crack into laughter like goofs as he delivered his comically terrific 9-minute speech to them.
Obama could not contain his amusement after meeting Jackson and Magic Johnson and mentioned it in a rather comic way by saying: "I do want to point out that six of them came with the Bulls," Obama who happens to be a big Chicago Bulls fan said to him. "You
remember that, Magic?"
The hall guffawed at this statement and Obama went on to praise the rest of the others after that.
