US Residency?

I am from Britain and I want to move to the US in the near future. It states on the website that I have to have a sponsor or an employment oportunity before applying. I currently don't know anyone in the states nor do I have a job oportunity. How would I go about getting a permanent residency status in America?

  1. Well, unless you can acquire an America relative, maybe you can't. Your ability to get an employment visa that might lead to a green card will depend heavily on your educational and work backgrounds.  The H1b visa, which can lead to permanent resident status, is for skilled employment, which is defined as work requiring either a university degree or its equivalent in work experience and training. The visa requires a prospective employer to file the paperwork with immigration and then wait for approval, which may never happen as these visas are limited in number and very oversubscribed. So, it's hard to say, since you neglected to put up your resume here. Suffice it to say, it won't be easy. There are other types of visas, including student visas, which may eventually lead to a job offer and a green card.
