US Rogers and Dalhausser add another gold medal to their tally – Volleyball news
The 2012 Shanghai Grand Slam men’s beach volleyball tournament came to an end on Sunday, while US duo of Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser settled for the title victory.
In the all-American final match, Rogers-Dalhausser came into stride with Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal. The former proved to be better and claimed winning status by sending 2-1 (21-19, 22-24, 15-11) on board.
Nothing less was expected from the defending champions of 2012 Shanghai Grand Slam. Rogers-Dalhausser, who claimed the Shanghai title last year, successfully defended their legacies and let no other team in the competition to hinder their performance. They
performed consistently throughout the campaign and took away second gold-medal victory on 2012 SWATCH FIVB World Tour.
Two weeks back, Rogers-Dalhausser seized the gold medal victory at Brasilia Open, which took place in Brazil. In the second SWATCH FIVB World Tour event in Poland, US duo could not grab any of the first three positions but clawed its way back to the podium
in third tourney of the regular season.
No. 1 US tandem of Rogers-Dalhausser opened the Shanghai Grand Slam in Main Draw. In the first round, they grabbed straight victories in first three matches. Furthermore, they moved to Super-16 and found a place among the top eight teams of the competition.
Gradually, the undefeated Rogers and Dalhausser reached the semi-final stage, where they were challenged by Brazilian duo of Benjamin-Bruno. The Brazilian tandem suffered from injury and match ended in a forfeit, which promoted Rogers-Dalhausser into the
final match of the tournament.
One of the semi-finals also brought US pairing of Gibb-Rosenthal and Brazil’s Pedro-Marcio Araujo. Comparatively saying, Gibb-Rosenthal had to put a lot of effort in order to make it to the finals. They defeated Pedro-Marcio Araujo in a two-set match and
joined Rogers-Dalhausser in the final encounter.
Final match featured a close competition between two American duos. Rogers-Dalhausser defeated Gibb-Rosenthal and marched away with gold-ware.
Rogers shared his thoughts after the match. He said, “I thought we played really well. Jake and Rosey played very well, but I was very pleased with how we handled them. It was good to see another American team in the final and it happened in Brasilia as
well. We’ve got three American teams playing at the top of the world.”
On the other hand, Gibb who seemed quite happy with their second-place finish said, “They played great and they really just sided-out great. We can’t beat them if they side out that well. They played great and we can’t take anything away from them.”
