US Team maintains winning streak at the X Women’s Pan American Cup – Volleyball News
The X Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup is underway in Juarez, Mexico with 12 teams from the NORCECA (North, Central American and Caribbean Volleyball Federation).
The teams are vying for berths in the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix, which is women’s premier international competition held on yearly bases. The grid of 12 teams in X Women’s Pan Am Cup has been split into two pools, where U.S. Team is playing under the tag
of Pool B. Women’s National Volleyball Team of USA is one of the top contenders of the tournament. They opened the campaign by taking on Peru in the first match on Friday, July 1.
The wonderfully assembled U.S. team gave out an incredible performance and defeated Peruvian ladies in straight sets. They sent the final score of 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, and 25-14) on board and bagged their first win of the tournament. It was great start for
U.S. Team, which enabled them to make further progress. In the next match on Saturday, U.S. Team was challenged by Puerto Rico. The competitors tried hard to hinder the performance of American team but girls around head coach Hugh McCutcheon kept on moving
at the same pace. They successfully dismantled the power of Puerto Rican squad and beat them up with 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, and 25-17).
Two straight wins in the tournament by American Women evidently showed their thirst for better status. U.S. team crossed its ways with an average team from Islands of Trinidad & Tobago on July 3. The opponents did not put any scare of defeat on U.S side
and received 0-3 (11-25, 17-25, and 18-25) defeat in the match.
The Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juarez Pavilion welcomed the teams from USA and Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday evening. The U.S. team made strong opening in the match and scored first four points. On the other hand, Trinidad & Tobago players tried to settle
down in their positions. American continued with hard-hitting and took the score by storm. Trinidad and Tobago was restricted to a low score of 11 points in first, while US Team achieved set points.
McCutcheon’s team picked up a strong lead in the second set and score seven consecutive points. They played amazingly well and held the opponents from the ‘scruff of their necks’. Second set also came successful for U.S. Team. The rival side struggled to
break the rhythm of American players in third set and put up a valiant effort in attack and defence. However, American women dealt with the challenge in a great way and finished third set with a score of 25-18. It was third straight win for U.S. team and third
consecutive defeat for Trinidad & Tobago.
