Question:

US/UK Dual Citizenship?

I was born in the UK to US parents. I was wondering what the guide lines are for having dual citizenship if neither of your parents are citizens of the country you were born in but lived there for a number of years. Is it possible in my situation to have dual citizenship?

  1. I am assuming that you already have US citizenship because your parents are US.  As for UK, being born there doesn't guarantee you citizenship.  Like many European countries, they go by the parents nationality first but if you want to know, check http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/british...

If you lived in the UK until the age of 10, you might qualify for this one: http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/british...

Otherwise contact them and find out.  UK and US both allow dual citizenship so you would not have any problems there.

  2. are you jewish ?

  3. If you live in the UK, fine.  If not, then no, citizenship goes by blood.

Personally, I am trying to get American citizenship.

  5. As you're born after 1983 your parents need to hold British Citizenship or Indefinate Leave to Remain (equivalent to a US green card) at the time of your birth for you to be born British (this can be acknowledged by obtaining a British passport).

Home Office on British Citizenship: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/britis...

UK embassy in the USA: http://www.britainusa.com/sections/index...

Failing that, they could have had your birth registered at the Home Office (your birth certificate is something completely different as you are entitled to that as you are born in the UK) and acknowledged as a British citizen if you lived in the UK until the age of 10.

  6. UK is garbage, a nation with little to no individual liberty and freedoms. Dump that citizenship and keep an American one.
