US Women's Open 2013: Angela Stanford wants to atone for lapses at Sebonack next year
American Angela Stanford has said that she is very excited to learn that the next edition of the US Women’s Open will be held at Sebonack Golf Club, Southampton.
Speaking to the media about how she is going to fare against rivals in the next US Women’s Open, Stanford said that course plays an important role in a player’s performance, and the selection of Sebonack for the 2013 US Women’s Open is a great idea.
When asked how she feels about the prestigious course, the American star said that she has not played much at Sebonack, but she likes it  very much and will enjoy playing the major event there.
“I don't remember all of it, but I know it kind of had a British Open feel to it. I think it's going to be different from most courses we play,” Stanford said.
The American prodigy could not live up to the expectations of her fans at the 2012 edition of the US Women’s Open, played at Blackwolf Run, Kohler. She displayed a worse-than-expected performance in all the four rounds, as she posted an overall 303.
Posting a grim score put a dent in her leaderboard position and she finished tied for the 54th spot.
Stanford was not the only local player who performed bad at Kohler, most of her fellow Americans finished outside the top 10 — something that took a toll on the spirits of players.
Now that the dust has settled, Americans are expressing their vow to atone for lapses they made at their national championship.
Brittany Lincicome, who played a slightly better game than Stanford at the US Women’s Open 2012, also shared her thought about the selection of Sebonack for the next edition of the major battle.
Lincicome said that she is pretty glad to hear that the major tournament is going to be played course liked by most of the big names, as it will help Americans end their victory drought.
“I thought it was really hard. The greens were so hilly, there were a lot of tricks to that golf course. But, right by the water, it's going to be a beautiful sight,” the American star said.
