US Women's Open: Yani Tseng firm to atone for lapses at major battle this week
The current world number one Yani Tseng might not have lived up to the expectations of her fans at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, but she appears to have set her sights on a far tougher battle set
to be staged at the US Women’s Open 2012 this week.
Tseng, the most talented and charismatic player on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour so far, looked completely out of form when she came face to face against rivals at the Walmart NW Arkansas
Championship, held at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.
The top-ranked prodigy was so under pressure that she could not even make the cut and walked off the course lowering her head.
Now, with the US Women’s Open set to start from July 5-8, at Kohler, Tseng can have a good chance to atone for the lapses she made in recent tournaments.
However, analysts said, the Taiwanese star’s number one concern will be to save her top spot from players like American Stacy Lewis, who has managed to rise to the second position in the Women’s World Golf
Rankings.
Analysts also said that the golfing sensation will definitely want to finish outside the top 10 at the second major tournament of the 2012 season — something necessary to further consolidate her number one
position.
Tseng made grim start at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012, as she made lousy strokes on most of the holes. On the other hand, underdogs capitalised on the situation and improved their positions on
the leaderboard.
Registering a 73 in the first round showed that the once-feared golfer was under immense pressure. Her strokes lacked precisions, which took a serious toll on her overall leaderboard position.
One version said that since the LPGA Tour is going through a new phase — where non-US players have managed to dominate most of the top spots, Tseng is struggling to maintain her upper hand over her American
rivals.
Stacy Lewis, one of talented LPGA stars from America, has grabbed the headlines after making a steep jump in world rankings.
However, it remains to be seen how the most successful female golfer dispels rumours about her fading influence in the upcoming tournaments — especially the major battle set to be held this week.
