US Women's Open triumph: Na Yeon Choi heaps praise on her coaches
Major winner Na Yeon Choi said that her coaches have played a pivotal part in her grabbing a coveted title at the US Women’s Open 2012.
Choi, who displayed a stunning performance at the 2012 edition of the US Women’s Open and racked up her first major title, spoke at the end of the tournament and shared how she has been assisted by her trainers Pia Nilsson and Lynn Mariott.
Choi belongs to South Korea and this major triumph has certainly put her country in the limelight — something very important for grooming more talented players for future.
Choi heaped praise on her coaches, saying she is very proud of Nilsson and Mariott, as they put their best feet forward just like she did for the major battle at Kohler.
When asked what has impressed the most about the two trainers, the South Korean star said that in addition to helping her improve her game on the practice range, both of her coaches like to give her a good piece of advice every time she sets foot on the course to face her rivals.
She said when she finished the third round at the US Women’s Open 2012, both Nilsson and Mariott talked to her and appreciated her for she did against her nearest rivals.
“Actually, my swing coach flew here last night from Orlando, and then he was here, that really helped me today. And then sometime I had a really serious warmup, but this week I never had the serious warmup. And even today the warmup was just warmup,” Choi said.
“And I stretched my body and just hit a couple of shots and I talked to my caddie about what you did last night, and I talked to my swing coach about just like without golf things”.
Analysts said that thanks to her victory at the most prestigious tournament of the LPGA Tour, Choi will gain so much try to keep her momentum going in the upcoming tournaments. “I have a mental coach. And they always say golf is five or six hours of sport”.
The major champion said that she does not rely on physical training alone, as she likes to focus on mental fitness as well.
