US Women’s Open 2012: Beatriz Recari happy with first-round performance
Spanish Beatriz Recari got off to a superb start in the opening round of the US Women’s Open 2012, as she fired a 70 to tie for the fourth spot along with Jennie Lee, Lexi Thompson and Ai Miyazato.
Recari appeared to be in high spirits, as she played sensible strokes throughout the first day. The tournament is being played at Blackwolf Run, with the presence of defending champion So Yeon Ryu and current world number one Yani Tseng.
The Spanish star stood firm despite the strong field and kept her rivals at bay. Getting off to a tremendous start in the major battle has helped her boost morale, and she plans to move into the next round with a more solid strategy.
The Pamplona native has not been able to grab a pro title since her last victory at the CVS/Pharmacy LPGA Challenge in October 2010. However, she now appears keen to add a triumph to her profile.
Analysts said that Recari has done far better than expectations, as she is considered as an underdog in a field that is featuring players like American Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Brittany Lincicome, Mika Miyazato, Shanshan Feng, Suzann Pettersen, Mindy
Kim, Azahara Munoz, Brittany Lang, Jessica Korda and Lydia Ko.
Lizette Salas of the United States stunned everyone on the course after she fired a 69 to share the lead with fellow Americans Cristie Kerr and Brittany Lincicome.
Commentators said that the results of the first round are at odds with the predictions, with an American rookie snatching the lead. They said that the next rounds will likely see a dramatic change in the leaderboard positions.

Recari said while speaking to the media at the end of the round that she was confident and did not feel any pressure. She said that she did face some difficulty due to tough weather conditions.
Hot weather troubled almost all the players in the roster. However, analysts said that the conditions are expected to cool off a little in the next rounds.
“That was definitely a challenge today.  And we bought some electrolytes last week.  It was incredibly hot.  It was very hard conditions.  Took some electrolytes, drank some electrolytes before the round when I was warming up,” Spanish golfer said.
“Some more halfway through and in the end.  Make sure that you drink plenty of water.  That was definitely goal No. 1 out there to make sure that we stay hydrated and, yeah, we just ‑‑ that was the most important part”.
