US Women’s Open 2012: Cristie Kerr ties for second position in second round
American Cristie Kerr, who grabbed the first-round lead in the US Women’s Open 2012, tied for the second spot after she posted a 71 in the second round.
Kerr is sharing her position with American Michelle Wie, who played amazingly well in the second round and posted a 66.
Kerr, who looked calm and composed on most of the holes, could not maintain her momentum and ended up registering a 71 — something that took a toll on her overall position on the leaderboard.
The American star might have let Suzann Pettersen snatch the top spot after she recorded a 68, but she is determined to move ahead in the final two rounds.
Analysts said that the rising star will look to atone for her second-round lapses when she comes face-to-face against her nearest rivals.
Although she avoided making too many lousy putts, she still could not hold her ground, and Pettersen also stepped up pressure by posting a stunning score in the second round.
The spectators heaped praise on Kerr when she judged the ball tactfully on the 3rd hole and drained a birdie-putt. She then parred the next six holes on the front nine.
On the back nine, she tried to maintain the same pace, but faltered on the 11th. She tried to regain her composure on the next hole as she posted her second birdie.
Speaking to the media about her performance on the second day of the prestigious tournament, Kerr said that she is not unhappy after what she did on the course. She said that she could not have done any better, as the match was getting tougher and tougher
by the hour.
Satisfied with her performance on the front nine, the golfing sensation said that she was a little under pressure on the back nine.
“You know, it's just playing kind of tough. Yeah, there were a couple of low rounds, but I think the key to this week is consistency, you know, trying to shoot four rounds under par,” Kerr shared.
“And I've done that halfway through the tournament, and I want to keep up that consistency and make a couple of those five, six‑footers that have kind of eluded me the last couple of days, so it is great to see low numbers”.
