US Women’s Open 2012: Se Ri Pak seeks to repeat her 1998 performance
South Korean Se Ri Pak, who clinched a title at the US Women’s Open in 1998, has said that she is as confident as she was 14 years back and will try to win the major battle again, set to be held this week at Kohler.
The US Women’s Open 2012 is scheduled to start from July 5-8, at Blackwolf Run — the same course where Pak won the prestigious title.
This year’s US Women’s Open is likely to stage a tough battle among LPGA (Ladies Professioal Golf Association) stars, but most of the spotlight will remain on Asian players like Pak and the current world number one Yani Tseng.
Speaking to the media about her stunning profile that includes five major triumphs, the South Korean star said that she is glad she found an opportunity to put her golfing skills to the test once again.
She said that she is confident that she can give a tough time to her rivals, given her solid work ethic, but the most important factor will be to remain in contention.
Although Pak has not been able to record a victory since the 2010 season, she appears to be in her best form.
Analysts said that the 34-year-old golfer does not seem to be complacent at all, as she has vowed to record victories in the current season.
They said that Asian players are likely to maintain their upper hand, with Yani Tseng and Japanese Ai Miyazato seeking to beat their US rivals.
Pak may not have been able to display her best performance, but she is, clearly, one of most experienced players in the field.
The veteran prodigy said that she still draws inspiration from her victory at the 1998 US Women’s Open, although it was recorded fourteen years back.
“The first I'm very excited to be back again. It's been 14 years back, actually, since from the U.S. yesterday ‑‑ it feels like yesterday. It wasn't any big differences at all. One big difference is I'm a little bit older than last time I was here. That's the difference,” Pak shared.
“I was lucky to get to be not having serious injury. So I came back early and right now I feel really great. Which is still working on my shoulder, make sure I get perfect with the condition that I have”.
