US Women’s Open 2012: Se Ri Pak ties for 15th position in first round
South Korean Se Ri Pak, who won the 1998 US Women’s Open, shot a 72 in the opening round of the current edition of the major tournament to tie for the 15th position on the leaderboard.
The US Women’s Open 2012 is being staged at the prestigious Blackwolf Run, Kohler, with almost all the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars in the field.
Pak is among the hot favourite contenders for the coveted title, and has vowed to do her best. The star golfer might not have finished inside the top 10 at the end of the first round, but she appears firm to keep advancing by displaying a good performance.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, the South Korean star said that she is extremely happy after posting a sensible score, but she may face a little trouble ahead.
She said that due to rigorous practice she has been doing for the last few months, she has improved greatly.
Sharing her thoughts about what it feels like to be back at Blackwolf Run—the course where she won the 1998 edition of the tournament, the veteran prodigy said that she is pretty happy to see her name in the roster once again.
Pak said that she is determined to atone for past lapses, and will try to clinch another major victory this week.
“Actually very exciting to be back again. Of course, it was 14 years ago, but the funny things I remember was at the playoff, last couple holes, and then I did a practice round earlier and they moved the tee. It felt like a totally different golf course,
you know,” the 34-year-old star said.
Speaking of her first-round performance, the golfing sensation said that she displayed a calculated game, which will help her keep moving ahead in the next three rounds. She added that the course is very amazing, and most important of all, she is familiar
with the all the tricky holes and rough.
“I was really solid round today. I'm very happy about the way I'm playing. But this golf course, you miss one shot little and you look and you have huge scores, huge numbers all of a sudden show up. You can see that”.
