US Women’s Open 2012: Stacy Lewis ties for 29th in second round
Current world number two Stacy Lewis, who got off to a lacklustre start in the US Women’s Open 2012, improved her position in the second round as tied for the 29th spot after shooting a 69.
The tournament is being played at Blackwolf Run, Kohler, and is featuring a fearsome field. Some of the key players include current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Lexi Thompson, Lydia Ko, Ai Miyazato, Mika Miyazato, Angela
Stanford, Jessica Korda, Se Ri Pak, Amy Yang, Cristie Kerr, Michelle Wie and Inbee Park.
Lewis, who is regarded as one of the strongest contenders in the field of the major tournament, displayed a decent performance. However, her first-round performance took a serious toll on her overall position on the leaderboard.
Analysts said that Lewis is desperately seeking to record a solid finish this year, as she is trying to grab the top spot. In order to snatch the number one position, the American star will have to trample Tseng, who currently appears to be indomitable.
The golfing sensation has been playing tremendously well in the current season, and has recorded some stunning triumphs so far.
Commentators said that Lewis might have got off to an unimpressive start, but she still poses a threat to her rivals. They said that hot weather troubled players on the course, but the LPGA giant stood firm and played a natural game.
Speaking at the end of the second round, Lewis said that she realised that she made many mistakes in the opening round, but a good performance on the second has definitely encouraged her keep moving ahead.
“You know, I actually didn't play that bad yesterday.  I just kind of let a few things get to me.  My attitude was not very good, and I came out today, I didn't really have anything to lose, and I knew I was playing well.  So just a little better attitude,”
the 27-year-old star said.
“I knew I needed to shoot a couple under just to make the cut, but I kind of looked at it as chipping away at the lead, so that makes me not focus on the cut.  That's what I did”.
