US Women’s Open 2012: Vicky Hurst shares fourth spot along with two other contenders
American Vicky Hurst, who stood at the fourth position at the end of the first round of the US Women’s Open 2012, shot a 70 in the second round to share the same position with Sandra Gal of Germany and Inbee
Park.
Hurst looked in a solid shape from the start of the match, as she avoided messing up her position with careful stokes on almost every hole. The American star had to face a number of battle-hardened LPGA (Ladies
Professional Golf Association) contenders, but she did not waver for moment and held her nerve.
The Maryland native started her round in a perfect style, as she shot an eagle on the 2nd hole and a birdie on the 3rd hole. She moved ahead by playing sensible strokes and parred four
holes in a row.
Already pumped up thanks to her performance in the opening round, Hurst knew how to gain the spectators’ delight. She cheered her fans once again when she made her third birdie on the difficult 8th.
On the back nine, the American prodigy could not hold her ground and shot three bogeys. Although recording three bogeys impacted her score negatively, she still remained in a stronger position due to her performance
on the front nine.
Commentators said that shooting an eagle early in the round boosted her confidence and she stepped up pressure on her rivals by playing more sensibly.
Speaking to the media at the end of the round, the LPGA titan said that she gained plenty of confidence after the eagle, and will try to do the same in the next rounds.
“Yeah. No. 2 I think it was I hit it into I was about 250 yards out, put it to like 14 feet and made it for eagle. It was a good start,” Hurst said. “Followed up with a birdie as well, and I was pretty hot
right off the bat, and played pretty steady throughout the middle of the round, and then I had a couple bogeys coming in, but overall very happy with my round”.
Hurst went on to say that she has been having trouble with her speed, but thanks to intense practice, she is getting more and more perfect by the day.
