US Women’s Open 2012: Yani Tseng improves position in second round
Current world number one Yani Tseng improved her position in the second round of the US Women’s Open 2012, as she jumped to tie for the 29th spot after posting a 72.
Tseng, who got off to an unimpressive start at Kohler on Thursday, looked far more determined in the second round and made plenty of solid strokes.
Posting a 74 in the first round took a toll on her overall position. However, the top-ranked prodigy appeared to have adjusted to the weather conditions on the second day.
Sweltering heat continued to annoy players, but Tseng was determined to make up for the mistakes she made on Thursday.
Tseng started the round with plenty of confidence as she parred the first three holes. She then birdied the par-4 4th. However, the Taiwanese star looked a bit under pressure on the 5th and 6th hole as she recorded two straight
bogeys.
She shot another bogey on the 9th hole of the front nine. On the back nine, Tseng improved her game a little and posted two consecutive birdies and consolidated her position on the leaderboard.
Analysts said that the golfing sensation has to put her best foot forward in the third round. They said that the next round will be crucial in terms of final results.
Tseng, who has seized the number one spot for several weeks, is trying to further cement her position in world rankings. However, in order to keep her rivals at a bay, the LPGA giant has to record a good finish.
Speaking to the media about her stunning performance, Tseng said that she is pretty glad that she has been able to improve her position on the leaderboard in the second round. She said that she is confident to move ahead with consistency and hard work.
“I played very well for like 12 holes, and then after that I kind of made some 3‑putts, and didn't hit my irons well and just dropped like three bogeys on the Back 9.  Just otherwise could have finished much better today,” the Taiwanese golfer said.
“But there is something I always can improve.  I even feel yesterday I played better.  Only two bad holes, but today it could be much better, but still two more days to go, and I wish to make some more birdies”.
