  1. The USA is basically accusing Japan of not behaving as they (the US) would like it to do, when it comes to trade policies.

Japan (like Great Britain) is an island and has a tradition of self-sufficiency going back millenia. A significant factor in the historical success of both GB and Japan is the ability to trade with other nations, but not lose sight of what is most important to  them.

The US is blasting Japan for protecting its own interests - which is THE prime responsibility of ANY government. It's as simple as that. However, if ANY country in the world blasted the US for doing the same thing, they would be studiously ignored by the US.

The USA is one again, as the sole Superpower in the world, trying to throw its weigh around and bully and intimidate. It wouldn't work with us British and it won't work with the Japanese either.
