Hi I am moving to Montreal and getting married to my fiancee there. I was wondering if I would still be considered an international student and have to pay astronomical fees?

  1. Once you are married you will receive "Landed Immigrant Status" (Permanent Resident) and you will have all the benefits of a Canadian citizen, with the exception of the right to vote. So you will pay the Quebec Resident tuition fee (around $1,800 + fees). As for the "astronomical" international student fee, I just want to comment that  an international student attending  McGill University pays (depending on the program) around $11,900 + fees per year (32 credits). For comparison purposes,  Harvard charges $32,557 (plus another $3500 for Health and student services fees) for the same deal. Sorry to carp about the fees - I just don't want to discourage International students from coming to Canada for an excellent undergraduate/graduate education!

  2. your husband will have to sponsor you to become a resident under the spouse visa

then you will be entitled to health care and Canadian student fees
