US currency in Niagara falls?

Can anyone advise if I can use US$ in Niagara Falls? Travelling to NY in June and the onto NF so would just like to know before I go!

yes, they do, but sometimes you get canadian money in return. However, all places have huge regisisters with both currencies so take as much money as you like. Just don't waste it on tourist traps. ie: Clifton Hill

You can use US currency on both the Canadian side and the American side, no problem.

Yes, most will accept  it. As for the answers that tell you to stay on the US side, there is way more to see and do in Canada, the dollar is about at par, so you wont see a huge difference if you change it at your bank.

Almost all businesses will accept US currency.  However you would be smart to convert your spending money to Canadian because you will get a much better rate.  Do not do this downtown Niagara Falls.  Do this at a proper bank (again, a better rate)

You can use US Currency almost anywhere in the world and seeing as how Niagara Falls, Ontario is just across the river from Niagara Falls, New York there is absolutely no problem at all.

US currency is generally accepted anywhere in Canada.  Depending upon the rate of exchange you may have to pay a little extra, or you may get a little discount for your purchase.  Yesterday's exchange rate was about 98 cents US for one Canadian dollar.   It fluctuates slightly from one day to the next so by the time you arrive in Canada it will likely have changed a little.

Well there is Niagra Falls N.Y which is on the american side and then there is Niagra Falls, On which is in Canada.  Both places do accept Us currency.  There are also money exchange stores along the main strips on the Canadian side or banks.  .

Yes, American money is still worth more than Candian currency.  Us dollar to cdn dollar is about $1.00 to 1.15.  If you use us money you might be paying more.  There are tons of places to exchance both ways.  Go to the Casino to exchange us to cdn they give the best rates.

Based on some queries we have received here at Niagara Falls Visitors Guide about currency, I thought that I would let the readers of this blog in on some tips and recommendations for currency conversion in Niagara Falls Canada. Generally U.S. Dollars are accepted at most attractions, restaurants and souvenir stores. The question is, should you exchange your money before crossing the border at your local bank? If the U.S. dollar was worth more I would generally have to recommend that you exchange your currency before entering Canada, but due to the current exchange rate, it is not really that important. I will update this post if & when the currency rates swing back in the favor of the American Tourist in Niagara Falls.

Why exchange before you come to Niagara Falls on your vacation? I have noticed, on my frequent trips to local souvenir stores in Canada that most of the shops will give a poor exchange rate. I have seen as much as 5o to 75 cents on the dollar over what you could get at your local bank before your even go on your vacation. There are plenty of banks in Niagara Falls USA where you can exchange your money before heading over the border to Canada.

Here is another tip – watch your credit and debit card purchases while in Canada if your issuing bank is in the United States. Most banks charge anywhere between $2 and $5 as a currency conversion rate fee. Check with your card issuer before going hog wild with your credit card on vacation in Canada as you can end up spending a lot more money then originally intended.
