US drinkers?

What percent of all American adults drink? I wanted to know because I know that 7.5% of all US adults are alcoholic and I wanted to know how common addiction was among drinkers..

What the stats don't tell you is that addiction rates always go up in direct proportion to the pills available to cure them. I wonder if there are any stats indicating how many alcoholics become addicted to prescription drugs written by greedy drs. Has drug addiction been wiped out by methadone treatment? Of course not, but the stats have gone up. I wouldn't doubt that they're working on a drug to cure slot machine addiction.

As of last year, a poll suggested that ~65% of American adults (18 and older, note that this includes people below 21) drink alcoholic beverages.  This could range from one drink on a holiday to drinking regularly.
