US duo May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh ready to rumble at the 2011 Brasilia Open
The 2011 Brasilia Open Beach Volleyball Tournament is just round the corner.
The 2011 SWATCH FIVB World Tour Opener is set to take place from April 17-23 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The double-gender event of Brasilia Open is the latest buzz in the world of Beach Volleyball. The teams from all over the world are heading to Brazil
to participate in the exciting beach volleyball campaign. The Americans are never behind in the game. The USA Volleyball (USAV) is supposed to send 10 US beach volleyball teams in the competition.
In the 2011 Brasilia Open, USA will be represented by following five women’s duos:
Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jen Kessy and April Ross Angie Akers and Nicole Branagh Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Hanson Brittany Hochevar and Jen Fopma
The 2011 Brasilia Open will start with the Country Quota Playoffs. The CQs will be followed by the Qualification Tournament, while the successful teams will enter the Main Draw stage afterwards. The Main Draw stage will progress with the single-elimination
bracket. The Main Draw will send the teams in quarter-finals and the activity will complete run with the “final four” round on April 23.
The US women’s teams will appear in the ‘Country Quota’ matches on 17th April, while the men’s side will not have any teams in the CQ stage. In the women’s section, the recently re-united duo of American superstars Misty May-Treanor and Kerri
Walsh will be under spotlight. The top seeds of US have made a great history in the previous years. They have proved their steel in the sport of beach volleyball and built a record of the most title wins. The duo has seized 77 World Tour gold medals, which
has not been beaten yet.
Besides, they have captured four Brasilia Open Titles in past. They are also regarded as the Olympian Champions. The US pair is expected to create a great buzz on the centre court. May-Treanor and Walsh will be challenged by the 2010 SWATCH World champions,
Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca. The duo of May-Treanor/Walsh is regarded as the highest seed in America but they are ranked number 5 in the present world rankings.
The Brazilian Juliana/Larissa are staying on the top. The second spot is held by China’s Chen Xue and Xi Zhang. Another Brazilian team of Talita Da Rocha Antunes and Maria Antonelli comes on No. 3, while German Sara Gollar and Lara Ludwig have been settled
in the fourth position.
The overall 5th-seeded US duo of May-Treanor and Walsh will have to cope with the reigning champions. Juliana/Larissa have had a successful run in 2010 and they finished with the maximum number of gold medal wins. They are currently enjoying a top form and
have great plans for the home series. The American team will be required to put up a great effort, in order to dismantle the power of the strong home duo.
