US news censership?

I am from the Uk but wanted to put this on the US site, I want to know whether US citizens feel that news coverage on major world issues is watered down or shown with Americans (compared to say Europe) shown in a more favourable light. Such as over wars etc, esp over Guantanamo bay.

The US media is heavily censored and watered down, but not by the government. It's done by the big media networks like CNN and Fox. They censor the news or water it down for comercial reasons (Advertising revenue) and because the primary purpose of an American news network is NOT to give a balanced version of the news, it's purpose is to present its main viewer demographic with the news that fits their personal profile the best (Basically, it tells viewer the news from a perspective that the viewer agrees with order to keep them tuned in).

This means that a conservative news station in the US broadcasts only conservative news and only to a conservative audience. The same is true for the liberal media.

Most American's don't consider their news to be watered down or censored because although they have access to other forms of media they often either consider the other media to be bias (Conservatives V Liberals, and so on), or they simply don't access the alternatives.

In Australia we got heaps of news about Guantanamo Bay I felt some thing want quite right in that place,yet when I has spoken to a relative in the USA they thought it was all above board.

When I moved from Europe, back to AmeriKa in the late 1980's, I was appauled, disgusted and in total disbelief at just HOW LITTLE REAL NEWS the AmeriKans see and how little they know about what is going on in the rest of the world.

At least, the BBC is available on DishTV on channel 135 for anyone who wants to get the REAL WORLD NEWS instead of the highly filtered news they get from TV other media.

Just look at yesterday... NOT A WORD about the Monaco Grand Prix... but half an hour about those stupid NASCAR races... When Michael Schumacher got his 7th WORLD TITLE... the news in AmeriKa was about Dale Earnhart...

With AmeriKans.. it's ALL ABOUT THEM... they can only talk AmeriKan... they know NOTHING about other countries and cultures and most of them can't even find the State the LIVE in, on a world map... but they are experts about the Middle East, and Asia and everywhere else in the world

I don't know about America, but you say 'compared to Europe'. Do you honestly believe that news in the UK is not censored?! Because it is.

I live in Canada and   the news on Canadian networks is certainly less biased then what is shown on the U. S. networks.
