I live in Houston unfortunately & I am curious why the mail comes AFTER 2pm when I was a little girl it came before noon. It was always that way. What happened?

  1. Michael is wrong.  I live only 2 miles from the post office and I and my neighbors must go to the post office for our mail.  Mail routes and schedules change all the time. There has likely been many changes since you were a little girl. Do you remember the penny postcard.

  2. when you were a little girl, there is a good chance that your mail ran twice a day. everything was hand sorted and the first part of of your mail probably came early and then the carrier went back and picked up his/her route to start over again. today with the vast number of mail, especially standard mail, it is automated and put in delivery point sequence so the carrier can have one trip and put in a sequence where it is the best available route. sorry if it comes later in the day, but they do there best. i still think it is pretty good that every household in the United States is offered free mail delivery.

  3. Oh no. The Florida postman are on the booze again?

  4. Because, presumably, you live at a different point on the route than you did when you were a girl.  Mail carriers work full days - 8 hours or more.  If most of their day is spent on the route (as opposed to sorting mail), it's logical that some people will get their mail early in the day while those at the tail end of a route won't see it until late in the afternoon.
