US should Ban Football!?

We are using our youth for a great sport but it has no future. Outside of the US and Canada no one plays it nor will they ever. We should replace it with sports such as boxing, track, wrestling so that we do better in the Olympics. We should start taxing football programs because they don't really do anything for US society besides make skill less football players in the future. Its all Harvard and Yale's fault for inventing this sport. I personally love it and have been at many games but seriously, this is a waste of time and money. Look at one of Harvard and Yale's most famous product--George Bush! You want to be as short sighted as him and his policies?

  1. Politics has nothing to do with football.

  2. Actually, I live in Sweden and here are there many (American) Football teams and MANY fans.. And Football is growing in Europe! Sweden just played the World Championship.. And there are also a league, NFL Europe which is pretty big, and also there is an NFL(US) game in London every year, which is always sold out! So why ban a growing sport?

Notice: The Super Bowl was shown in 179 countries!!

  3. YOU IDIOT football is fun you are plain Stupid if you think we should ban football.

  4. 1st your dumb the NFL makes millions for our country when they play exhibition games in other countries, people all around the world watch and love football don't try to bash the US for being the only country that actually plays it!

2nd do you want US to do what other countries do and take kids from their parents and start training them when they're 2 and if they don't do good torture and shun them?

3rd if your mad about bush don't take it out on football or in the football section!

God Bless America! and God Bless Football!!!

  5. You must be a liberal.  You probably have never even worn a jock strap.

  6. This makes no sense...  People play the sport that interests them, why should they be forced to play your suggestions?  Last time I checked it does take skill to play American footbal...

  10. The OP should kill himself

  11. One of the most ridiculous ideas I've ever heard.  In case you haven't noticed, with the NFL we still dominate the Olympics and will (once again) finish with more medals than any other country.  That's pretty impressive if you ask me considering we're competing against a country like China that has over a billion people and state run "athlete factories" specifically designed to create athletes to win these types of events.

  12. Who cares if the sport does nothing outside the US and Canada.  It's an American sport and we don't need it outside the US and Canada.  Remember the NFL is a business and it produces insane amounts of revenue.

Also, if it isn't enjoyed world wide, why dothey play one game a year in Europe, why did they have a European football league and why is the Super Bowl broadcast to somewhere around 180 countries.

  13. you are dumb.......

  14. Take football away so we can do better in the Olympics?? YEA RIGHT...The Olympics is important dont get me worng but its not more important than Football to me LOL...I love the track, basketball ang gymnastics for women but besides that im not too interested. I do watch every night but its not better than the SUPERBOWL or the NFL PLAYOFFS.

I guess u werent that good at fooball. I could care less if no other countries played it. Its the number 1 sport here in the USA so maybe u should just not watch it anymore.

  15. are you crazy this is stupidest  idea EVER!

  16. You Sir,are an imbecile, what the h**l does George W Bush has to do with football, does your miniature brain think that by winning gold medals in the olympics is going to make the US a better society, especially in sports like boxing and wrestling, one is beating the h**l out of each other, and the other is grabbing each other the whole match, did you write this question all by yourself,or did you need help,it must be easy to detect short sight on someone when you're one yourself,if you wanted to make a political comment about Bush, there is a politics section for that in a different area,

  17. Football has no future? Tell that to the 22 year old first round draft pick that just became a multimillionaire overnight. Tell that to the TV networks who invest billions of dollars in securing the rights to broadcast NFL and college games. Tell that to the advertisers who spend millions of dollars on advertising during these broadcasts.

Here in the USA, we have a free economy. The government does not determine what we should spend the money we earn on. The bottom line is that football creates a tremendous amount of revenue. The concern that it is not played on a more global basis is of little importance - there are plenty of sports in other parts of the world that are exclusive to a handful of countries (Aussie Football for example) that are still popular on a regional or national scale.

To someohow think that the federal government should tax one particular sport to fund sports such as track or wrestling is actually a view that would be more likely to take place in a communist country. Sports here in the states are run by independent organizations, not by a state controlled agency. (There are a few exceptions - state high school organizations and boxing commissions come to mind) the USOC does not get money from our federal government at this time, and has only received one payment in the history of the Olympic movement - a $10 million "emergency" measure given back in 1980.

And whkle I certainly would never argue that football has made as significant a contribution to society as advances in civil rights, or in medicine, or in mass communications, it certainly has had an impact on it. At the college level, a successful football program can very often provide funding for other non revenue sports (such as wrestling, track and field, swimming, gymnastics) to exist. Take away the financial windfall from selling 75,000 seats to 5 or 6 games a year, not to mention the alumni support that very often comes in as a result of having a good football program, and I would bet that the NCAA would cease to exist within 10 years.

And why should football be taxed when other sports are not subject to taxation? Do we simply decide that we should tax a sport based on it's international appeal? Do we only tax non-Olympic sports? Or do we simply tax every single sporting activity, including the sports that are already struggling in this country?

Sorry, but the success of football in this country or the money that people spend enjoying it is a result simply of people's choices. Unless you can honestly say that a person who spends , let's just say $500 a year on attending games, buying NFL merchandise, etc. would turn around and spend it on supporting perhaps the Olympic Badminton team, then your argument really is not valid. People choose to spend money on football because they simply enjoy it more then most other sports. Nothing will ever change that. And as an American, I personally would rather see millions of my fellow Americans enjoy watching a sport that contributes to the economy on a yearly basis rather then sports that only basically are visible once every 4 years. While i certainly root for our Olympic athletes, I have never equated their success or their failure as an indicator of the greatness of my country.

And if you truly think it's a waste of time and money - stop watching it. Don't spend your money on it. Instead, go ahead and make a donation to the USOC, the AAU or any of the other countless amateur athletic organizations that are out there.

  18. To the guy above me, this has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative....this question is just plain retarded. I'm liberal, and football is hands down my favorite sport. Calling for a ban on it is just about the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard of.

No future/waste of money? Are you serious? The NFL is one of the biggest money machines in the world! (and a huge staple of our economy). And in College football, many of those schools' football programs basically pave the way for the university to fund all of their other programs. Furthermore, track & field and olympic greco-roman wrestling are two of the most boring things I've ever witnessed in my life. They're all about straight-up preparation & diet/weight-loss training for days on end...no real complex strategy (like there is with football) or adaption skills to speak of.

...yeah, ok, let's get rid of the great American sport that happens every year (almost year-round) to train for something that happens once every 4 years, and which has almost lost all of it's original meaning and purity anyway. Would you ask Europeans to get rid of Soccer to train for the other olympic events? No you wouldn't, because they would kill you. Same goes for football in the US.  And no one's forcing you to watch it anyway...

  19. What exactly does boxing do for U.S. society?  You seem to have an opinion based solely on your dislike of Bush and he has nothing to do with football.  If you're going to post such a foolish opinion at least have some substance to back it up.  Claiming that football should be replaced by boxing makes no sense unless of course you think Mike Tyson is good for society.
