US team finishes the second leg of 2012 FIVB World League without any loss – Volleyball news
The second leg of the 2012 FIVB World League completed its run from June 15-17, while US team remained undefeated in Pool C.
Team USA appeared in a total of three matches and clichéd absolute success. The boys around head coach John Speraw performed consistently throughout the second leg of the tournament and defeated Italy, South Korea, and hosts France, respectively.
At the end of second leg, USA claimed an overall record of 4-2. American team did not have a great start in the campaign as it dropped two matches in the first week. Nonetheless, the team showed noticeable improvement in the next flight of matches and covered
the deficit. Success in last three matches allowed USA to take up the leading role in Pool C with a total of 11 points.
The host of Pool C during the second leg, France, had the similar win/loss record of 4-2 and the French team also ended with 11 points but US squad moved up due to a slightly better ratio.
The US mentor John Speraw shared his views about his team’s stellar feat. He stated, “It’s a very nice week-end with 3 wins, it’s very good for us. A lot of teams took the opportunity to play with young guys. Obviously we did too for example with Sean Rooney
and he plays very well, that’s very good for us. We have also a nice contribution of guys from the bench.”
Likewise, the skipper of the team Clayton Stanley commented, “For us to win our three games is very positive. We put together a good game plan. We are happy about hey the way we play, we were consistent throughout this three matches so that’s the best thing
that’s we could ask for.”
French City Lyon hosted the week-2 matches of Pool C. American hotshots took on Italy in the opening match and bagged victory in straight sets. Italian team gave a good competition to American counterparts but still could not manage to win the match.
In the next fixture, US team went against South Korea. The Koreans took a great start in the match and secured the opening set. However, the Americans controlled the action in the next three sets. The match ended in four sets and USA marched away with 3-1
victory.
The last match of the second leg really tested the nerves of Americans as it brought the hosts France in the competition. The home team was equipped with stupendous support of local fans and had the competitive edge of playing under familiar conditions.
There were mixed opinions about the possible outcome of the match but the visiting team proved to be better and sent the hosts to 1-3 loss.
