US visitor to UK - any bank a/c or credit card she can apply for?

Hi. My American friend's daughter has come to stay with me for about six months. She won't be working while she's here. She needs a bank a/c with a debit card to keep her money in while she's here, but she doesn't have anything showing my address - no utility bills etc as she is a guest. Does anybody know of an a/c she could open? Also, she is using her US credit card, but they charge her for each transaction. Is there a UK card she could get that she could use & settle in sterling? Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

  1. Visit this site

Here you will find enough information that will help you solving your this question.

  2. The easy way is to get a prepaid debit card, you can get these from large newsagents on the high street then just transfer whatever money you want to it and then just use it the same as you would a normal debit card.

  3. With UK bank account you can only open the if you can prove the following:

Yourself- Passport (with valid VISA) or EU ID card.

Proof of address - util bill, tax bill

Obviously she will have a passport but the second one will be difficult for her unless your willing to put her as a second name on one of your utility bills. That's the only way I'm afraid.  same with credit card, as she is not a uk resident she will not be able to be credit scored.

if she need a card that she can use in shops and atm's go to: www.sterlingcard.co.uk this is a pre paid top up card that you put money onto and lets you use in atms and shops.

hope this helps, good luck ;-)
