US welcomes the resumption of Indo-Pak cricketing ties – Cricket News Update
The United States of America has welcomed the resumption of bilateral cricketing ties between India and Pakistan, calling for a continuous effort towards a better future of South Asia.
Historically, the neighbouring countries have shared bitter relations since their separation in 1947, including three full-fledged wars in 1948, 1965 and 1971. The tension has often been witnessed on the cricket ground, bringing the best out of both the
teams.
The two teams have not played any bilateral series since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Terror Attacks in 2008, which halted sporting relations between the two nations. Apart from international cricket, no Pakistani player has taken part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since
the incident.
The situation however, seems to be improving as the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) has invited http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757
in October.
On top of that, BCCI recently announced a limited-overs series with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in December, which will include three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and two T20 Internationals. The Pakistani players are also expected to take part in the IPL’s sixth season.
Victoria Nuland, the US State Department's spokesperson, expressed that the government welcomes the move by the South Asian giants, although cricket is not a very popular sport in the US.
The spokesperson expressed that better relations between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Pakistan are imperative for world peace.
“We’re for cricket. We don’t understand it, but we like it. We have been supportive in all of our diplomatic encounters at every level with the Indian side, with the Pakistani side in some of the progress that they’ve made. They’ve made considerable progress
on the economic side,” Nuland said.
She further added that sports can bring the people of sub-continent closer and help develop trust between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 and Islamabad.
Nuland added, “We are encouraging them to do better on issues like sharing counterterrorism information, dealing with threats to both countries, moving forward to work on trust and political issues, so we will continue support dialogue
between them at every level.”
