US women’s volleyball team eyes the first Olympic Title – Volleyball News
The top-seeded American women’s national volleyball team is headed for London in search for the Olympic Title.
Nicole Davis, Logan Tom, Tayyiba Haneef-Park, Lindsey Berg, Christa Harmotto, Courtney Thompson, Tamari Miyashiro, Megan Hodge, Jordan Larson, Destinee Hooker, Foluke Akinradewo, and Danielle Scott-Arruda are featured on the 12-player team-roster, while
Hugh McCutcheon will be attached with the team as head coach.
The Olympic Women’s Volleyball Tournament is set to take centre stage on July 28 at the Earls Court in Central London. US team will make a fourth appearance in the Olympic Games. American squad qualified for the Olympics for the first time in 1984 when all
the action took place in Los Angeles. Taking full advantage of the familiar conditions, the American women’s volleyball clawed its way to the final showdown of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Nevertheless, the US team dropped the decision and ended up
in only second spot.
In the next run, the US team fought for Olympic title in 1992. The Barcelona Olympic Games created another fine opportunity for America to claim better results. The US team managed to find a place in the top four teams of the competition, but finished in
the third position. Americans left Barcelona with their first bronze in the history of Olympics.
Most recently, US team participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Once again, the team performed amazingly well in the early stages of the tournament and booked a slot in the final match. The results of the 2008 Beijing Olympics final were different
as USA ended up with silver-ware. The team dropped the chance of holding the Olympic title trophy with only a slight margin of points.
Next up, US team is all set to secure gold in the 2012 London Olympic Games. US team has recently returned with FIVB World Grand Prix Title and currently has No. 1 ranking in the world. US team has great prospects to live-up the dream of securing Olympic
gold this year.
Speaking of the American team-line, the Head Coach Hugh McCutcheon stated: "We've developed a lot of depth in this program over the course of the Olympic quadrennial and, as you would expect, it was very difficult to determine the final composition of this
team. However, after a lot of time and deliberation, we all believe that the group we've selected gives our program the best possible chance of being successful in London."
