US work permit on visitors visa

Question

A friend of mine is trying to get a US work permit. If he travels to america on a visitors visa and then is able to get a job, can he get a work permit that way? He has a British and South African passport.

This will be in Tampa, Fl. and he also wants to bring his family over from South Africa. He has many years of experience in IT and will be able to get a job without a problem. How does he go about getting into the US legally and then getting a work permit and later on, a green card?

when you are on a visitor visa you are not allowed to perform any sort of activity, you would have to leave the country and come back with a work visa,otherwise millions would try this.

No, he cannot work here on a visitor's visa.  He would have to go home and apply to come back to obtain a green card.

No.  He cannot get a job in the US while being here on a tourist visa.  If he wants to emigrate to the US, he will need to get a job offer from a US employer and then have the employer sponsor him for a visa.  This is getting increasingly hard to do,
