USA's U-17 Women National team started off well at their first international tour
The American Under-17 junior women reached their first international destination in Amsterdam, Netherlands in the morning and played their first of the five scheduled matches against EMHC Eindhoven on April 19.
The match was played with breaks after a twenty-minute period, with total two breaks in the sixty-minute match. US defeated their opponents by 7-1 goal scores in the opening match.
The US striker, Anna Dessoye, inaugurated the score with a fifth-minute goal. The score took place by her excellently delivered drag flick into the goal, opening scores at 1-0.
By the end of the first twenty-minute game, another score was shot by US’s Allyssa Chillano right at the EHMC’s goal-keeper that deflected into the goal, getting the US lead to 2-0.
In the first three minutes of the second round, the American forward, Kelley Stump, managed to score her team’s third goal with the ball bouncing on the board, taking the scores at 3-0.
Another American attack approached the EMHC’s defensive circle within the next few minutes when Kelcie Hromisin struck a shot past the goal-keeper's left side followed by the third successive goal hit made by Dessoye while standing at the top-left
of the circle, setting the scores at 5-0.
USA U-17 carried the match well throughout, not allowing their opponent team to score until in the third round a shot got missed by the US goal-keeper, opening the wrong end of the score 5-1.
The US women soon gave an answer back by striking two goals one after the other before the time-out was called. One of these goals was shot by Gabrielle Major, closing the scoreboard at 7-1 by the end of the match.
US U-17 women team’s Head Coach Shellie Onstead said, “Today the offense managed a structured attack and did a good job converting scoring opportunities. Tomorrow I expect the defence to be under a lot more pressure.”
At the end of the match, the coach remarked on the team as a “surprisingly high level of play.”
