Can anyone explain to me why the Dream Team can choose any players for their team but the Olympic Football Squads are limited by Age Restrictions.

Correct me if I'm wrong and what are your thoughts on this?

  1. no. its the REDEAM TEAM

  2. Because Olympic Football wants to retain some link to being a non-professional competition. The age restrictions give more chance for young up and coming players to get a run.

Also remember footballers earn heaps more than basketball players. Didn't bekcham get $100m a season for signing at real madrid (or something like that). Name one basketball player getting anywhere near that much.

Besides in the USA's case I don't think the age restriction makes any difference to being able to field a competitive team.

  3. Soccer has the world cup.  The world cup is FAR more important that the olympics.

    Basketball has no such thing.
