USA Men's Water Polo Team edge Canada, 8-6: FINA World League Prelims – Swimming News
USA Men’s Water Polo National Team beat Canada by a fringe margin of 8-6, at the FINA World League Prelims, held at Costa Mesa High School on Friday, May 13.
The match started in a stunning fashion between the two teams in front of the full-packed house. Canada took the lead first by scoring an emphatic goal into USA’s net. After a few moments, Brian Alexander of Santa Ana, CA/UCSB/Olympic Club drew the match
at 1-1. USA team took their first lead due to the brilliant goal of Jeff Tyrrell.
Bailey then scored to give USA a 2-1 advantage entering the second period of the game.
United States continued the assault in the second quarter when JW Krumpholz found Tommy Corcoran to give his side a 3-1 lead. A five-meter penalty was later converted by Tyrrell to give USA a 4-1 advantage.
Canada used the rest of the quarter aggressively, scoring on successive power-plays, to draw within a score at 4-3 going into half-time.
In the next half, both teams then scored one goal against each other, which meant that proceedings were again in the same position at 5-4. Michael Sharf of Orinda, CA/California/Olympic Club then scored a sensational goal against the Canadian Men’s Water
Polo Team and increased his team lead by 6-4.
The match became interesting after two continuous goals from the Canadian team, as they levelled the match at 6-6. The crowd was thrilled by the sudden comeback of the Canadian athletes. However, the USA Men’s Water Polo team-mates did not come under pressure
and they scored a lovely goal into the Canadian net and took a 7-6 lead in the match.
Canada Men’s Water Polo team put their best efforts to level the score but their efforts went in vain in the end, when the USA team took the decisive lead of 8-6 against Canada and won the match.
Bailey was the star performer for his team, as he scored three goals from the USA men’s water polo team’s side in the vital FINA World League Prelims round-up. Alexander also chipped in with two goals for his national team and also put up a good show in
the match.
USA Men’s Water Polo Team put up a remarkable performance in a close match against Canada, which surely lived up to their expectations.
USA Men’s Water Polo Team is very excited and confident after their win over Canada and it will certainly help them a lot for their next matches. Both sides played very well and tried their level best to win the match, but it was USA in the end, which stood
