USA Men’s team defeat Queensland Academy 4-0 – Hockey Update
In a bid to implement over the directives of Hockey Coach Nick Conway, the Men’s hockey team of United States (USA) powered a commanding 4-0 win over the visiting team of Queensland in the last encounter held at the Moorpark in California on August 14.
Pat Harris, a US player while speaking to the media after the contest said that they showed outstanding care of the ball in the competition. He stated. “It was good to see our team take care of the ball and take advantage of our chances. Queensland definitely
threatened in the latter part of the half and it’s a credit to our defence that we held them scoreless.”
Both USA and Queensland teams started the action in quite similar way and put efforts in search of ball possession. In result of the early action, the US team succeeded to establish their dominance over the field. Tyler passed the ball to Steve Mann at the
forefront who created first short corner of the day. Pat Harris was the player who converted the penalty corner into a successful goal and put the home team ahead on the scorecard.
After scoring the first goal of the game, the US players started back-to-back attacks in order to make their grip strong over the game. They accomplished to and fro strikes that paid off in the 12th minute of the match. Moritz Runzi, the player
hailing from Boston sent a pass from the mid-field position to Steve Mann at the forward line. He was standing alone in front of the Queensland’s goalie and unleashed a powerful shot at the backboard. Owing to a fast paced game, the US team was leading the
game at 2-0 in the very early minutes of the play.
It is vital to mention that the US player did not repeat the similar mistakes being done in the previous encounter. They did not lose their grip over the match on any occasion and showed impressive stick-work and ball-catching abilities. In the ending minutes
of the period, Queensland received a few goal-scoring chances but the US defenders did not allow making them successful. The host side was leading the game at 2-0 after the thirty-five minutes of play.
In the second frame, the Americans started the action where they left in the opening round. With two minutes into the half, Ian Scally received a short corner and tested Will Holt to avail the opportunity. Holt did not disappoint his team-mates, as he slammed
the direct flick at the top of the net and expanded the edge up to three goals. Jon Ginolfi in the waning minutes of the play received a pass and volleyed a powerful shot into the goal to take the advantage up to four goals. With resilient defence, the US
team won the match 4-0.
