USA assistant coach Jim Boeheim says that LeBron James is closest thing to Michael Jordan – NBA News
After nearly a decade of hard work, dedication and relentless effort, LeBron James is finally reaping the fruits of his labour.
James saw the early years of his career being overshadowed by the fact that he was unable to win an NBA championship, a feat that eluded him for quite some time. It was only this season that James finally won the NBA championship
with the Miami Heat, and captured the crown that cemented his name in history amongst one of the very best to have played the game.
And the year kept getting better and better for James.
After winning the regular season MVP and the NBA championship, he won the NBA Finals MVP. And now James has topped all of that by winning the Olympic Gold Medal with team U.S.A at the London Olympics. Only 1 player has accomplished
all that in one season and that was Michael Jordan back in 1992.
James showed why he is one of the best players in the world at the Olympics, playing an overall game to ensure that the team won game after game. James was happy to make the assist, call the play and contribute on the defensive
end as he helped his team to victory, although he had no issues in turning his game on when the going got tough in a few of the games. And his performance in the Olympics has many people praising him for his talent as well as his maturity.
Jim Boeheim is one of those people who can’t stop singing praise for James. The assistant coach to the U.S team for the London Olympics and the head coach at Syracuse will be stepping away from his duties with the U.S team after
an affiliation that lasted 10 years. And in that time, he has seen LeBron grow from a college kid with great talent to a mature NBA player.
“He’s a leader. He gets on the court, he tells people what to do … this guy can guard five [positions]. Put him on anybody, he can guard him. I always felt Michael Jordan was the best player I’ve ever seen. I didn’t think it was
close. And I’m not so sure anymore. This guy is 6-9, 260 pounds and he’s getting better … I know we’ve had great, great players through the years. He’s like Magic Johnson with Michael Jordan-type skills as well,” said Boeheim.
Although James is still years behind Jordan with respect to all that Jordan was able to accomplish over the course of his illustrious career, he seems to be well on his way of possibly being the closest thing we ever get to seeing
Jordan back in action any time again. James still has a lot to prove to himself and others, with many records yet to be broken and many feats yet to be accomplished. However, his last season shows that he is finally ready to make a run at those records.
