USA basic TV channels?

Here in the UK, we have basic terrestrial BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, C4, and C5. For now anyway, until the country goes digital.

What are the basic channels in the USA? For people who don't have cable or whatever.

Stuart, I am in UK too and I wish I had asked this question as we are visiting the States soon and I am sure that without paying as we do, with Sky or cable, the US "terrestrial" as we call it is a hundred channels!

we usually have channels 1-99 and whatever State you live in the tv stations broadcast on their own channel. like my State has channel 3,12,16,17 etc.. kinda like the radio..

The national broadcast networks are ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, PBS, the CW and My Network TV.
