USA beat Brazil in water polo game: Day five – 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, Melbourne
With their continued dominance throughout the water polo tournament, USA’s national team beat Brazil in their fifth match on day five of the 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), on Thursday, January 12.
The American players showed no mercy to their opposing team and pocketed victory with an incredible margin of twelve goals. The match concluded with USA’s easy win, as they scored 17 goals against Brazil’s 5 goal effort.
The match seemed interesting in the first quarter, where the American players notched up three goals while Brazilian athletes did not back off and answered with two goals in the same round. The round concluded at 3-2, with USA in a lead of one goal.
Nevertheless, the tables turned in the second quarter, where USA’s national squad geared up their efforts and blocked all attempts of Brazilian players. The American athletes dominated the round and scored three consecutive goals while Brazilians failed to show any development on their scorecard. With their stupendous effort, USA extended its lead to four goals, leaving the score to 6-2 after the initial half.
The game was not over yet, just after the start of third quarter, the American players smothered all efforts of their opponents and accomplished five goals in a row. On the other hand, Brazilians managed to throw the ball in American goal just for once and the round ended with the score being 11-3.
With their inevitably strong position, the Americans went wild in the fourth quarter. They scored six goals in the final round while Brazil was able to score two goals only.
Brian Alexander was nominated as the highest goal scorer of the match, as he scored five goals, two goals each in the first and third quarter while fifth in the last round.
After their tremendous win, USA easily sustained its position on top of the overall rankings table. Their next bout is scheduled with the Australian Barbarians, where the Americans will need to strengthen their position by scoring more goals as they face strong competition from Australia, which ranks second on the points table.
