USA defeat Australian Barbarians in water polo match: Day six – 2012 Women’s Pan Pacs, Melbourne
USA’s national team defeated Australian Barbarians in their fifth water polo game on day six of the ongoing 2012 Women’s Pan Pacs at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) on Friday, January 13.
The American squad showed no mercy to its opponents and enjoyed their victory with a margin of seven goals. USA proved its mettle by winning the match with a score of 12-5.
The American players remained dominant over their competitors from the first quarter. They scored two goals in the first round while their rival managed to respond with a single goal only. In the next round, USA accomplished four goals and extended its lead to five goals while the Barbarians remained at nil. The score remained 6-1 after the first half.
Nevertheless, the Barbarians geared up their efforts and improved their scorecard by three goals in the third quarter. USA also achieved three goals in the third round and the score went to 9-4. In the final round, USA scored three goals but this time, Barbarians succeeded in accomplishing one goal and the match ended with a clear win of USA.
Subsequently, the arena witnessed wonderful efforts of Australian and Chinese players, who tried hard to claim victory over each other. Australia managed to prove its supremacy over China by one score, as they won the match with an 8-7 effort.
The first half of the game was tough, where both teams accomplished four goals against each other. Chinese team dominated third quarter of the game, where they scored three goals and Australia managed to achieve two goals only.
In the final round, the Aussies again notched two goals and augmented on the scorecard while the Chinese failed to show any advancement and lost the game by just one goal.
In addition, the crowd went wild with the exhausting efforts of both teams, who put together a great show. Furthermore, the Australian team secured its top position on the overall points table as they have not faced defeat in any of its matches while China stands on third spot with its two victories and 10 points.
