USA defeat Japan in water polo game: Day two – 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, Melbourne
USA’s water polo squad has defeated Japan in their second quest of the first round on second day of the 2012 Men’s Pan Pacs, on Monday, January 9 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The Americans shattered hopes of Japanese team by beating them with a considerable difference of 5 goals. With their gruelling efforts, the American athletes turned the match into a one sided game, as they kept on extending their lead throughout the four-quarter
game.
The ball remained in control of the American players throughout the first quarter, where they achieved a phenomenal score of 4 goals. At the same time, the Japanese tried to prove their mettle, but only two of their attempts were successful in the first
round.
The American team strengthened its position for an outstanding win in the second round, where they went full rampant and added three more goals to their score. Once again, the Japanese national team was hardly able to take control of the ball and they accomplished
only one goal. After the second quarter, the score was 7-3, with USA having a lead of four goals.
The competition intensified in the third round, where the Japanese athletes elevated their efforts and unexpectedly scored more than USA. Nevertheless, they were unable to cause much harm to the USA team, which yet again scored 3 goals adjacent to Japan’s
effort of 4 goals. At the end of third quarter, USA sustained its top position as their score was 10 goals against Japan’s 7 goals.
After the score disparity turned shorter, many expected a forceful competition from Japan in the final quarter, but this time USA’s nerve-wrecking performance spoiled the party of Japanese players.
With their exhausting efforts, the American veterans stroked three goals yet again while Japan made only one successful attempt to throw the ball in USA’s goal. The match concluded with USA’s victory, as they scored 13 goals and Japan was only able to accomplish
8 goals.
After their outstanding performance, USA reached the top of overall points list and is now planned to compete with China in their third match.
