USA earns 11th position in FIVB Boys' Youth Volleyball World Championship
The Egyptians and the Americans were locked in battle to win the 11th slot in the FIVB Boys' Youth Volleyball World Championship on the August 28th. The venue of the competition was located in Bahia Blanca, Argentina. The resulting
match took four long sets to reach its close and saw the Americans celebrating a win over the Egyptian squad by 3-1.
The opening set was extremely competitive with neither side letting the other team take control. However, the Americans proved to be the stronger of the two as they were able to secure the first set. The second set remained tight all through as well but
the Egyptians were able to prevail and equalise the match by bagging the second set. The third set started evenly but the Americans were able to turn things around in the end. The fourth set followed the same pattern as its predecessor with the Americans sealing
the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 29-27, 23-25, 25-20 and 25-20.
The coach of the American team, Ken Shibuya, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference after the match had reached its close: "It has been a great experience for us. In Argentina everybody did a great job, they are very good hosts.
My players are much more confident now that at the beginning of the championship."
While the Egyptian coach, Hossameldin Eissawy, made these statements to share his views: "Congratulations to USA. It was a very good match, I am happy with the performance of my team. They did many mistakes, but is normal."
The Egyptians were leading at the first technical time out at 8-6 and stretched the advantage till 16-12. The Americans did not give up on the chase and were able to close in the gap at 21-19. The Egyptians tried to destabilize the Americans by calling for
a time out but the strategy did not work and the USA went on to win the opening set at 29-27.
The Egyptians had the lead in the second set at 8-6 but the USA was able to get the advantage for themselves at 16-14. As the set progressed, the Egyptians took the lead and did not let go of it till they had made a win at 25-23.
The third set remained close for the most part but the Americans were able to separate themselves from Egypt to charge ahead and take the set at 25-20. The fourth set unfolded in much the same way as the third with the Americans gaining momentum after the
second technical time out and bagging the set at 25-20.
The top scorer among the two teams was the Egyptian player Islam Abdelkader as he tallied a total of 19 points while the lead scorer on the American side was Gregory Petty with 14 points.
