USA - elections/We have the ability, don't you think we should count the peoples votes?

And use that to elect the president - when the system was set up there was no way to really do that - it would have taken many months.

  1. The electoral college was originally put in place to protect against the "tyranny of the majority."  It's the same reason why we didn't have direct election of senators until the 17th Amendment.  I think it's time for an update - I'm not really please with the concept of the electoral college and direct "democracy" is far more of a reality now than it was even 50 years ago.  Seems a little skewed that someone can win the popular vote but lose the election.  It would be interesting to try, see if "mob rule" would actually reign, or if much of anything would change.
