Im British (with a british passport ofcourse) and i want to go on holiday to the sates this year from the end of JUNE till JULY.

My passport expires in DECEMBER... BUT i heard that If i do go to USA, i have to have at least 6 months before it expires on the date that i COME BACK on.

I would come back in AUGUST so that means i would have only 5 months remaining on my passport.

Would they allow me to go back home if I have 5months left? I really want to go to america this year and i cant renew my passport until the expire date is closer..

PLEASE HELP!!

  1. you can just use your birth certificate or your license.

  2. NO the US stickier to its 6 month rule without exception. but you can renew your passport at ANY time not just before it expires.

best to fill in a replacement application at your Post office where they do the pre-checks for yu and that speeds things up stating reason for application  efficient length of unexpired validity to visit USA (they are used to doing this) and it should go through OK

  3. No, your passport only needs to be valid thru the period of your visit to the U.S.

  4. I found this quote answering a similar question on the US Embassy/London consular website.

"If your passport is not valid for at least six months beyond your date of departure from the United States, it will not affect your eligibility to travel. The United States has an agreement with the United Kingdom automatically extending the validity of a passport for six months past the passport's expiration date. Therefore, your passport need remain valid only for the duration of your stay in the United States. "

So have a good stay in the US.
