USA football world cup team has the potential to crash world cup party

In recent World Cup history, an unsung hero emerges from the mass, an unexpected guest that no one expected. Between 1990 and 2002, we saw Cameroon, Croatia or Turkey play that role. The USA team this year has the potential of being party crashers.

USA: The American Dream

The USA team has never felt such excitement and support from its fans since the 1994 World Cup. The ''Yankees'' are getting stronger at every World Cup and have not missed the competition since Italy 1990. With an improved MLS and experience, the Americans are feared more and more. Funny fact though as the USA team has never been confortable in World Cups held in Europe.

They did not go past the group stage in Italy 90, France 98 and Germany 06 but made it to the next round at home in 1994 and the quarter finals in 2002 in Asia. Can they repeat their feat in Africa? Can they reach the semifinals for the first time since 1930? With an excellent run in the 2009 Confederations Cup, the Americans comes to Africa with high hopes.

The World Cup draw seems to be favorable for the USA but they will need to take their opponents seriously. In group C, they will meet England, Slovenia and Algeria.England is probably the Goliath of the group, the scare crow. But Slovenia and Algeria should not be difficult opponents. If they go to the round of 16, they will probably meet Germany, a team that they should not fear. Bob Bradley does not have an excellent 23-players squad but he will be depending on key players: Timmy Howard, Landon Donovan, Bocanegra and Clint Dempsey.

USA's confidence level is at its highest. They will need to remember their Confederations Cup run in South Africa. They already know the country and the stadiums.
