  1. Germany

  2. I was born and raised in Germany but live in Savannah GA since 1989

well i tell you what... i love living here in the USA... cause  my Husband and Sons are over here... plus i really love Savannah and the fact that we have accomplished to own a House over here... the USA has it's good points but also a lot of bad ones....... for instance  Health Care is one... Germany helps people that don't have Health Insurance they give you a slip that is good for 3 month and you can go to any Doctor of your choice... also...I`m diabetic and believe it or not when i went back to Germany in November the first time in 17 years... i had no Diabetes while i was over there... i ate like a Horse and my blood sugar ran below 100  here in the states it's always close to 200... odd.... i ate more there then i do here... so  see...... Germany has it's good points and so does the USA.... hard to make a choice between the two

  3. I was born and raised in the U.S.  However, I spent the summer of 1999 in Bamberg, Deutschland as part of a study-abroad.  Since then, it is my strongest desire (YES, Strongest) to move there.

My father is a German citizen living in the U.S.  Because of that, I am able to obtain a German passport (tons upon tons of paperwork ... but I believe, well worth it).

I have another two years before I can make Germany my home (my son has two years remaining of high-school).

When I visited, I also became well aware of the "pace" of life, the comfort I experienced while out on the town late at night, etc.

I tend to be a highly stressed individual and was so appreciative of being able to feel so relaxed and at ease.  It enabled me to see and experience life in a whole new way.

My primary concern about living in Germany, is knowing in advance how I will be able to make it financially.  Y'know, a job?

Anyway ... these are my thoughts.

  4. I think because I was raised by culturally American parents I like the US better. I don't like the brusk, cold German attitude...it comes across to me as an American as rude even though I know they don't mean to be. I don't think I'll ever be able to shake the feeling of everyone hating me, even though logically I know it's just how German culture is.

  5. Hmm I agree with Altstadtweib.

I am also a German living over here in the states and wish I could just put both of the countries together...lol

In Germany I just love the food (omg gained 5lbs during my one week stay in July..lol)

Also the German government takes much better care of their citizens than here in the US.

As far as being over here (live in FL) I love the weather, the beach and the opportunity to go to school until you're 100yrs old lol

As long as we're in the military I'll go back to Germany in a heartbeat...both countries thumps up :)

  6. I would rather live in Germany as we have trains and buses all over and you can go anywhere when you want to. Also alot better health care than the usa. over there every year after you turn 50 years old the government wil pay to send you to a doctor for a check up. I was born there and like it better whoever said germans are rude thats wrong as i believe americans are after all the bad treatment ive received like my checks stolen and bank not doing anything and then get beat up in the local hospital. Wish I had million dollars then i would move there and come here to visit as my parents live here.

  7. I was born and raised in the USA. I moved to Germany when I was 30 - transfer for work. I planned to stay one year - cheap way to see Europe. Well(doch), one year has turned into 20. I have no plans to move back to the US.

In my case I am in the best of health - same waist size as when I graduated highschool and I am now in my 50's. My 3 older brothers in America are all over weight and have a variety of heart problems. Since being healthy is one of the most important things in life that is why I prefer to live in Germany. I adapted to the way of life overhere, walking, relaxing on Sunday, eating good heathly food, enjoying the beer, etc. I also have access to excellant health care that would not be so easy in the US.

How many Americans can say they WALK from their homes and within 10 mintues have; A Bakery(Those alone are reason enough to live in Germany! OK, no bagels - Let's not go there!), Drugstore, Bank, Grocery Mart, and a variety of other stores and services?

I will agree with the answer about both countries having their good points and if we could combine the two then we would indeed have Utopia.

Oh yes, one other point; I live and work in Germany without any connections to the US Military. That means I do not have the luxuries like the PX and Commisary, and the cheap postal rates(Compared to the German Post). I always find it funny when I meet an American with the US Military living in Germany. For one, they are almost always complaining about all the inconviences(Germany doesn't do this, or why do I have to recycle everything?, blah, blah, blah), or how bad it is on base, and Oh My God, no Wallmarts anymore in Germany!  My point here is that when talking about 'Living' in Germany those people do indeed have the best of both worlds.

So, tell me is this some kind of homework assignment, or are you totally bored at the base library?

  8. this is a hard choice but i would have to say USA because of the convience of stores being open all night such as walmart and alot more food places to chose from.  Also because I speak more english then german so it is easier to understand people.

  9. I am German and work in the US,but I prefer my

Home Country. People are more open and tolerate more then here,Health Care at home is better than in the US.

But the US has also a lot of nice  places. Working for a Health Care Staffing Agency I have been around a lot.

But as always every Country has its advantage and disadvantage.

    Greetings

    from Seattle

  10. I lived in Germany for 26 years, now I'm living in TX.

I prefer living in Germany cause it's way more comfy there because of the little cities. And you got a pretty good health insurance there. You got more vacation days in Germany, too.

  11. My home country is the US, and I have now lived in Germany for 13 years.  If my husband and I were independently wealthy, I know I would like to live in the US again.  The people are friendlier there, I prefer the US school system, better shopping opportunities.  Health care is better here in Germany, though.

P.S.  Shopping in the States isn't limited to Walmart.

  12. I am American (born & raised in Texas, have lived all over the US), and I lived in Germany 1997-2002.

Overall, I prefer living in Germany.  But it really has to do with your priorities and personal preferences.

For many, the convenience and accessibility of things in the US is really important.  If you thrive on a faster pace, if you are really career-oriented, etc., Germany (and especially small-town Germany) may not be the place for you.

I found the pace slower in Europe, and really learned to "smell the roses" while living there.  Everything being closed on Sundays certainly taught me to actually take a day off ... I was pretty much a workaholic before living over there.  But to be fair, service and speed and convenience were definitely not what we're used to here in the US.

Once I adapted to the ways of Germany, I loved it.  I found more enjoyment and little things to appreciate in my everyday life while living in Germany, and the friendships I made there were initially hard to establish, but once built were clearly going to last a lifetime.

When living in Germany, I missed things that were inherently American.  Now I live back here in the States, and miss all the German things I grew to appreciate.   A case of the grass always being greener? ... maybe.

Oh, and I miss their standard 6-weeks paid vacation from work.  ;-)

    Tschuess!!!

  13. Hey I´m from germany.

I think germany is not so bad. It´s cold. That´s right. Much unemployment. And stupid pupil like me.  LOOK AT MY ENGLISH .  But you can sleep save. And life.

    @Answer over me

It calls :  ich spreche gut deutsch    oder sprechen sie gut deutsch

  14. Germany!!!

Not so full of flags and patriots and the fact that this is a welfare state makes living a lot easier.

  15. I am German until I get my U.S. Citizen-ship. Lived all over the Place, because my Ex was in the Army. Now my Kids, new husband and I live in Texas.

Needless to say I prefer the U.S.A.

  16. I lived in Germany for 10 years straight from 1980 until 1990 while in the service. And again from 1999 until 2001 as a civilian.

I can say that Germany is my second home. I feel comfortable traveling there and the language is not that difficult to learn (and most Germans speak English, it is a required foreign language in schools).

I can't really say if I prefer living in one country or the other. There are ups and downs in either the USA or Germany. This is because of our customs and Germany's.

I would recommend that you travel to Germany and stay for at least a couple weeks before jumping into moving lock stock and barrel. That way you will be able to sense how you would like it.

Germany does have a better mass transportation system that the USA, roads and even the sidewalks (yes, they still have them) are spotless. There is also a lot to do and see in Germany.

The key to living there is to respect their customs and try to learn there language.

    I sprechen sie gute deutsch.

  17. I am German and I live since 15 years in the USA because of my American husband. I love Germany a lot, maybe because I grew up there. I also love the USA because this is where I live now and where I have my own family and friends now.

If it wasn't for my husband and kids I would probably go back to Germany. I think Germans have more fun, more people are out on the streets, the parties are better, the food is better....

But on the other side...it's nice here too...the schools are better (at least for the ones who love to learn), the salary is bigger, you get more house for your $$$....

These are just a few examples...this is a topic where I could go back and forth for a while....

I wish I could take the best out of both countries and put it together. I think I will be torn for the rest of my life between those two countries.....I love them both! (maybe one day I could live half a year here and the other half in Germany...who knows?)

  18. Germany, hands down.  I lived there for two years and fell in love with...no, it's not a perfect country, but I enjoy the liberal, progressive attitudes, the health care, the people, the safety, and the culture...I was never an American who missed Walmart.  It's my dream to relocate there permanently.
