USA relay team dominates Men’s 4*100m medley relay heats: Day eight – 2011 FINA World Championships
USA relay team dominated Men’s 4*100m medley relay on the concluding day of the Federation International de Natation (FINA) organised World Championships in Shanghai, China.
The American squad occupied the fastest qualification spot in the final, by submitting a miraculous effort of 3 minutes and 32.42 seconds. Their qualification time was 5.14 seconds away from the world record of 3 minutes and 27.28 seconds, set by America’s
team at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
Swimmers from America in the respective meet included David Plummer, Eric Shanteau, Tyler McGill and Garrett Weber-Gale. Plummer swam the back-stroke leg for USA and completed the first 100m of the race in a time of 53.97 seconds. The race was continued
by Shanteau, who completed his breast-stroke swim in 1 minute and 00.13 seconds. Next was McGill, who concluded his butterfly swim in 51.00 seconds, while Weber-Gale was the freestyle swimmer of USA, who posted 47.32 seconds to complete the event.
Their time was only 1.27 seconds behind Germany, who emerged as the second fastest qualification team, with a time of 3 minutes and 33.69 seconds. They were followed by the relay team of Netherlands, who remained only 0.90 seconds behind the second finisher
and claimed the third fastest qualifying spot in a time of 3 minutes and 34.59 seconds.
Japan’s squad remained prominent for the fourth best qualification spot, as they were just 0.23 seconds behind Netherlands and clocked a time of 3 minutes and 34.82 seconds. They were followed by Australian team, which achieved the fifth finest qualification
spot, by reporting in a time of 3 minutes and 34.88 seconds.
The relay teams of Canada and Poland were the sixth and seventh fastest qualifiers, with timings of 3:35.36 and 3:36.13 minutes, respectively. Great Britain’s team was the last team to qualify into the final round, as they produced a time of 3 minutes and
36.19 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the preliminary rounds of all events, whereas, these teams will face each other in the next round to obtain a podium finish.
