USA relay team wins Women’s 4*200m freestyle gold medal: Day five – 2011 FINA World Championships
USA relay team won the title of Women’s 4*200m freestyle relay on day five of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) scheduled 2011 World Championships on Thursday, July 28, in Shanghai, China.
The American relay team won the gold medal of the event in a terrific time of 7 minutes and 46.14 seconds. The squad failed to improve the world record with a prominent difference of 4.06 seconds, as the record of 7 minutes and 42.08 seconds was made by
the Chinese team at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
The American team was followed by the Australian squad, which stayed only 1.28 seconds behind and captured the silver medal of the event, by submitting a time of 7 minutes and 47.42 seconds. The bronze medal was secured by People’s Republic of China, as
they stayed only 0.24 seconds behind and reported a third fastest time of 7 minutes and 47.66 seconds.
The fourth fastest spot was acquired by the French team, which stayed nearly five seconds behind China’s swimmers and reported a noteworthy time of 7 minutes and 52.22 seconds. The Hungarian team followed next, as they were just 0.17 seconds behind and demonstrated
a noteworthy effort in the distant freestyle relay, by clocking a time of 7 minutes and 52.39 seconds.
For the sixth fastest spot, Great Britain’s squad proved their dominance, as they stayed 1.12 seconds behind their preceding team and produced a time of 7 minutes and 53.62 seconds. Moments later, the Canadian team obtained the seventh fastest spot of the
4*200m freestyle relay, as they stayed 0.11 seconds behind the British squad and ended their swim in a time of 7 minutes and 53.62 seconds. The Canadian squad maintained a comfortable distance over their following competitor, New Zealand’s team, who stayed
nearly three seconds behind them and posted a time of 7 minutes and 56.55 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of the finals and semi-finals of day five events, while the World Championships will continue for three more days to conclude all the scheduled swimming meets.
