USA secures berth in final round of 2012 Pan Am Junior Team Event – Badminton News
The second spot of the final round in XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event belonged to USA when Peru lost semi-final encounter at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada on July 23, 2012.
This tussle proved one-sided affair as US shuttlers did not drop even a single match point and registered 3-0 win to setup a title match with Canada.
The foundation of this splendid victory was put by Women’s Singles expert Iris Wang who cast out Camila Garcia in just two games.
This opening tie lasted for just 20 minutes before getting resolved with decisive figures of 10-21 and 7-21.
Iris Wang dictated her challenger from very first stroke and maintained the upper hand until last shot was played.
She launched a brisk attack in the beginning of first set and pushed her competitor on the back-foot with few back-to-back powerful rallies. She bagged first half with a mountainous total of 11-4 and entered in second half as leading contender.
Iris Wang gathered valuable points at steady pace and finished opening game with a favourable score of 21-10.
The Peru shuttler failed to rise also in the second set and put in a below par performance. She surrendered after reading an indomitable margin of 7-21.
This early advantage pushed other US shuttlers to put their best and Men’s Doubles partners Phillip Chew-Kenneth h*i doubled the lead by trouncing Pablo Aguilar-Gonzalo Duany.
They took just 31 minutes on court to place a winning total of 18-21 and 12-21. They hardly found any trouble en-route to victory in this straight-set match.
Phillip and Kenneth set the ball rolling in first set when they piled up a respectable figure of 11-9 before the interval.
They made the best out of this lead in the later part of the game and finished opening game with 21-18 score on the board.
The next set turned into a flat contest as the US players blew away their competitors with a staggering knock of 21-12.
With this 2-0 lead, Women’s Doubles team Cherie Chow-Christine Yang got the perfect stage to display their craft.
They took just 24 minutes on court to topple Daniela Macias-Luz Maria Zornoza. They ensured their country’s presence in the final round by registering 21-13 and 21-11 margin.
