USA sweeps Women and Men’s 4*100m Medley Relay events – London Olympic Games
The United States of America made a clean sweep in the Women and Men’s 4*100m Medley Relay discipline on day eight of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Saturday, August 4.
First of all, the relay squad of USA obtained gold medal of the Women’s Medley Relay. The team not only captured gold medal of the event but also shattered the world record of the event by clocking a wonderful time of 3 minutes and 52.05 seconds.
The winning team included scintillating efforts of Missy Franklin, Rebecca Soni, Dana Vollmer, and Allison Schmitt, who collectively proved their mettle for the title.
Their furious efforts were trailed by Australian squad, which remained nearly two body lengths apart and occupied the medal rostrum for silver medal by reporting an effort of 3 minutes and 54.02 seconds.
The second position holders were followed by Japanese team that stayed 1.71 seconds apart and transpired on the victory stand for bronze medal by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 55.73 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Russian players, which stayed 0.30 seconds behind and reported a time of 3 minutes and 56.03 seconds.
Following that, the American squad achieved the same in Men’s equivalent event, where Matthew Grevers, Brendan Hansen, Michael Phelps, and Nathan Adrian were part of the team.
The American swimmers faced tough competition from the Japanese squad throughout the event but with their relentless efforts, they tapped the finishing wall for first position with a timing of 3 minutes and 29.35 seconds.
The Japanese team stayed almost two seconds slower from them on the finishing end and posted a time of 3 minutes and 31.26 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Australia, which suffered a loss of only 0.32 seconds from their former finisher and posted 3 minutes and 31.58 seconds.
The bronze medallists were trailed by relay team of Great Britain that finished fourth in the event by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 32.32 seconds.
